Quick thought on Performance-Enhancing Drugs

What are some of the reasons why people use performance-enhancing drugs?

To maintain stamina and get a desired look is why most take performance-enhancing drugs. For example, the Russians their athletes that were bound for the Olympics these drugs in an attempt to win the Olympics and make political stance as superior globally. This was politics at it’s worst as if could get any worse. Dec 05, 2017 by Bill Chappell wrote:
“The International Olympic Committee has suspended the Russian Olympic Committee "with immediate effect," essentially banning the country from the upcoming Winter Olympics over Russia's system of state-supported cheating by athletes using performance-enhancing drugs,” (Nevada Public Radio, NPR). https://knpr.org/npr/2017-12/russia-banned-2018-olympics-athletes-told-compete-under-olympic-flag?gclid=Cj0KCQiAv_HSBRCkARIsAGaSsrCMLyjL2BFhoQsi7IlQ_o5Bz9iIuRQHdeLMGux5y81bKIKGI9QluFcaAjWiEALw_wcB  This was clearly a scandal and 22 of the team were banned.
Athletes may take drugs for a variety of reasons. The principal reasons can be categorized as:
  1. Therapeutic use for the treatment of medical conditions.
  2. Social and ‘recreational’ use.
  3. Performance enhancement
The therapeutic side includes different medical conditions such as, asthma, colds, or short-term medical conditions in order to compete and train. Just like anyone they get sick to, but they have a competition that cannot be placed on hold. Of course, they have to have a valid medical prescription to violate regulations. This also requires a therapeutic use exemption (TCU).
Drugs are used widely within society, throughout the world, for social and recreational purposes. At one-time Coffee was prohibited up to 2004. It was considered a performance-enhancer drug as far as athletes are concerned.; according to the WADA prohibited list.
Do you think that people can become dependent on performance-enhancing drugs?
The short answer is Yes. The use of the substance or method represents an actual or potential health risk to the athlete, and becoming addicted to performance enhancing-drugs (PEDs) can cause addiction, therefore it is harmful, (Mottram 2014). PEDs have the ability or potential to drastically alter the human body and biological functions, including the ability to considerably improve athletic performance in certain instances. They also can be deadly.
